Artist Sho–U Tajima garnered a lot of acclaim for his role in developing the animated sequences in Kill Bill Vol. 1, and this is his first collaboration with acclaimed writer Eiji Otsuka. The results are electrifying. Madara is the tale of an apprentice blacksmith who gets around with the use artificial limbs his adoptive father made for him; but when a chance encounter with the demon Moki reveals that Madara is the powerful son of the evil warlord Miroku, who had his child’s limbs cut off and divided among his eight generals, the boy sets out on a quest to recover his lost body parts, confront his father, and claim his destiny. It’s an intriguing tale by two of manga’s finest.
