Wall of Flesh
(AC, 1992)
™ Americomics, ©1992 AC Comics
This title is a campy and oddly humorous tribute to the really bad horror comics of the 1950s. Unlike the various EC titles, which often managed to bring something original and unpredictable to the genre, Wall of Flesh is essentially just a gross horror device with the merest of plot required to show it and an ending you can see a mile off. Normally this would be the kiss of death for a horror comic, but in Wall of Flesh’s case, these are the very qualities that make it so much fun.
AC Comics, which is better known for its female super-hero team Femforce, delves into the vaults of pre-code horror to bring you the infamous Wall of Flesh, as well as other delightfully bad horror stories by Joe Kubert, Wally Wood, and Dick Ayers. Not even the forgettable stories that NEC spotlights in its Extinct! series manage to sink so low—or have quite so much fun at it—as Wall of Flesh.
