This black-and-white title from writer-artist Eric Yonge is both well written and beautifully illustrated. It tells the tale of John Gunner, an NSA operative who is somewhat like an American James Bond. He infiltrates and brings down organizations that are antithetical to democracy, and he romances the ladies along the way. Yonge’s passion for the character—who is rooted in his creator’s childhood—and his love of the comic book form are evident on every page, each of which is detailed without being cluttered. Hopefully, there will one day be a Gunner #2.
