Richard Benson, founder of Justice, Inc., is a private eye trying desperately to put his life back together. Years ago, gangsters threw his wife and child out of a plane, and inflicted injuries to him which left his face paralyzed. Later, his own government would blackmail him, forcing Benson to impersonate a man accused of selling secrets to the Communists. Benson succeeded in flushing out the spy, who was captured and hung himself in his cell. The spy’s contact was sent to the electric chair.

Encouraged by their success, the shadowy government agency which “recruited” Richard went even further, coercing Benson into being implanted with a device which reprograms his skin tone and facial muscles—letting him perfectly impersonate anyone. With this implant, Benson became the perfect agent—able to fit in anywhere, able to be anyone. But after making a shocking discovery, he decides he’s not going to be anyone’s pawn anymore.
