Liberty From Hell

    (Radio Comix, 2004)
TM and (c) 2004 Christina Hanson

Your assignment, class, is to create a cool title for a comic book and then come up with a story to support it.

At least, that’s how it seems Hanson put this book together. Well, she did formulate a discernable enough premise (a fallen angel is offered a chance at redemption), but it seems that she forgot the goal of the assignment until the last page of the story. After a demon (the horny and fallen angel Phalloide) is conjured from Hell and spends the issue playing with the sexual appetites of mortals, this O. Henry offer of redemption comes from his former pal Azeal. There’s a lot of preamble but no substance until the end. Moreover, the issue also lacks any real identity. Hanson’s 6th century characters use slang 15 centuries ahead of their time à la Mel Brooks or Monty Python but recite authentic-looking Latin satanic spells, complete with footnotes containing proper pronunciation. Then, there’s a digression into soft-core porn before attempting to address a Gaiman-style war between Heaven and Hell.
