Some comic series rely as much on emotional visuals and character expressions as expository dialogue. New Vampire Miyu series is one such title. A bitter war has taken its toll on the characters, although the end is drawing near. A young man fears for the safety of his mother. A young woman tends to the wounds of an injured foe—the western shinma—who her friends are quick to remind her has just tried to kill her, and will do so again. But in her eyes, a good heart is important in a world where enemies are everywhere. Unfortunately, it won’t necessarily ensure a lengthy life.

Narumi Kakinouchi’s title is complex and tricky to stay with, dealing with issues of romance, honor, betrayal, and of course, violence. Published in black and white by Ironcat.
