Crozonia

Crozonia is the name of an underwater city. The comic book features Matt Stark, a surface dweller chosen by the leader of Crozonia to fulfill a great destiny. Atlantis war stories have been overdone in comics.

The art is professional, and Jim Su and Dan Merisanu should get scooped up by one of the big publishers one day. The designs of the warriors and weapons are nice; unfortunately, the story is just retreading old ground. “The Chosen One”: how many times has this been played? The Atlanteans are the bad guys in this comic, which is something of a switch. Still, I wish someone would explain how these underwater people learned to forge metal weapons and build submarines. Why would you need a submarine, if you lived under water?

The dialogue isn’t bad; it’s just that anyone who has ever read one of these stories could write it. What separates this Atlantis battle from the many others we’ve seen in comics? If there is an answer, it’s not in this preview. It’s to be hoped that Su or Merisanu will get poached by another publisher so their talents could go to a more challenging story.
