Comics Reading Libraries
(King)
™ and © 1973 King Features
Comics Reading Libraries were a series of give-away comic books produced by King Features syndicate and publisher Charlton Comics. The comics feature favorite King characters like Beetle Bailey, Blondie, Popeye, The Phantom and others in stories with simplified text to help youngsters learn to read. Between the stories were games, exercises, and features focussing on word use, punctuation, grammar and facts about books. Issues were given away at schools and libraries throughout the 1970s to encourage reading for fun.
