Shi: Black, White, and Red

    (Crusade, 1998)
™ and ©1998 William Elliott Tucci

The black, white and red in the title refer to how this two-part tale is colored. Shi is Ana Ishikawa, a Catholic girl taught by her Japanese grandfather how to be a warrior so she could avenge the murder of her father. In Black, White, and Red, a rat king who has been imprisoned for 500 years is suddenly liberated after an earthquake in Kobe, Japan. The rat king places the spirit of Kanjo, a man who helped kill his queen, into the warrior Kesai; in addition, he tries to get Shi to join his side. However, the sorcerer Raima tells Shi the truth about the rat king, and they team up against him.
