Marvel Milestones: Blade, Man-Thing, & Satana

    (Marvel, 2005)
™ and © Marvel Characters, Inc.

At its inception, Marvel Milestones was a reprint title that of offered readers an opportunity to read a classic story that otherwise would be cost prohibitive to purchase. After a few years, the promotional value of this idea became a primary reason for its publication. This volume reprints stories from 1973 titles of Dracula, Man-Thing and Satana, three characters who have new titles or reprint collections to be promoted.

The Dracula story features the first appearance of Blade, whose popularity has eclipsed the vampire king in a movie franchise starring Wesley Snipes.
The Man-Thing story is culled from Fear #16 and has some similarities to the plot of the Man-Thing movie from 2005. Satana’s allotment is from her first appearance in the black and white magazine Vampire Tales.

The significance of these stories, especially the first appearance of Blade, is undeniable, so perhaps Marvel’s monetary motivation can be overlooked.
