Pork Knight: This Little Piggy
(Silver Snail, 1986)
™ and © 1986 Rob Walton
The success of Frank Miller’s, The Dark Knight Returns, engendered a number of parodies of his story-telling style. This title written and drawn by Rob Walton, employs Miller’s technique of using television news reporters and interview shows for scene transitions and exposition to great humorous effect.
Rather than a story in which an embittered, retired vigilante returns to stop the spiraling descent of society, The Pork Knight attempts to stop the theft of fine art paintings. By removing classic paintings from the public, art mogul Yippie Shyster intends to promote an insipid standard of art appreciation, and with the use of a creature who resembles Jack Kirby’s Demon, become “as unto a god!!” The exact method in which this would be accomplished is not explained but the story does display Walton’s obvious fine art and classical mythology background.
