Valor (E.C.)

    (E.C., 1955)
™ and © William M. Gaines, Agent

Valor was among the best of EC’s “New Direction” titles, launched in response to the new Comics Code. Although traditional EC “shock” elements were toned down or missing from Valor, it nevertheless turned in a fine collection of stories. About half of these were tales of high adventure and bravery in the face of death. The other half were ironic tales featuring schemers who got their comeuppance for having indulged in treachery or cowardice.

During its run, Valor was illustrated by Al Williamson, Wally Wood, and other legendary artists. Despite favorable reader response, Valor lasted only five issues before collapsing along with the rest of the New Direction titles in late 1955.
