Romantic Story

Publishers during the 1940s created romance comics strictly as a revenue generator. Horror and sci-fi comics were selling well and the female market was, err, virgin territory. These titles would have been seen as the perfect complement to the movies and magazines women were already reading. They combined the topics of unrequited love and heartbreak. Every girl wanted a steady beau or to get married. How times have changed! She was never an ugly duckling despite being unpopular or unnoticed but the odds are heavily stacked in her favor. Blessed with the slyness of a fox, her prey is the unsuspecting male of the species AKA the oaf. Unaware, inattentive and with a silly grin on his face, the oaf blithely walks into a trap from which he’s never seen again. One interesting fact is that men authored most of these books!
