Shaman’s Tears was Mike Grell’s ambitious debut at Image Comics. As the Soviet Union fell apart, a lone cosmonaut was left stranded in space until his new countrymen could find a way to get him down. The cosmonaut had been carrying out advanced genetic experiments, recombining the DNA from many different creatures in order to form new life forms. Under the cover of a brief radio blackout, strangers enter the cosmonaut’s ship. They kill him and steal the experiment. Back on Earth, the life forms mature—from half-human, half-monkey space mechanics, to bio-engineered soldiers and warriors. The only question is, can they be controlled?
Josh Brand, returning home to the Indian reservation he grew up on, will soon have cause to worry about this. Unbeknownst to him, he is destined to be an important player in both his tribe’s and the world’s future.
