Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde
(NBM, 1992, 1998, 2003-2004)
™ and © NBM
P. Craig Russell has illustrated adaptations of operas by Richard Wagner, (The Ring of the Nibelung), and Wolfgang Mozart, (The Magic Flute), as well as such standard comic fare as Batman and Robin. In this impressive hardcover book Russell’s delicate linework showcases some of the most charming and moving tales of Oscar Wilde. Wilde was a renowned writer of the late 19th century famous for The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest. These stories are a bit of a departure for the sometimes-scandalous Wilde, but his enchanting prose is captivating and delightful, especially coupled with Russell’s beautiful art. These books would make a fine addition to someone’s bookshelf regardless of their affection for comics.
— George Haberberger
