Bug Girl

    (Moronik, 2005)
™ and © Moronik Comiks, a division of Cinorom Entertainment

This kooky three-issue series from Jorge Dondero’s Moronik Comiks (See also Dirt Boy) spotlights the story of Selma Mae, an unpopular girl who makes friends with bugs. When her bugs spark a small measure of interest in Selma Mae from her schoolmates, she decides to raise her game to the next level, miscalculating badly.

Bluffing the reader with narrative red herrings, Writer Dondero toys with your expectations like Selma Mae toys with her bugs. By suggesting that perhaps some kids are unpopular for a reason, Bug Girl goes delightedly against the grain of comics narratives that tend to beatify introspective loners.
