A villain in real life, this legendary figure of the old West got a facelift in this Charlton series. William Bonney, a.k.a. Billy the Kid, was actually a hot-tempered gunslinger who once was said to have killed a man for snoring too loudly. In this title, however, he becomes a dashing and heroic figure, helping homesteaders defend their land from greedy cattle ranchers, and forcing con men and gamblers to hightail it out of town. And in a final contrast to reality, any money that falls into the Kid’s hands is usually turned over to the less fortunate or the local church.
