Toytown Comics
(Swappers Quarterly, 1945-1947)
™ and © Swappers Quarterly
Toy Town Comics was an above-average entry in the crowded field of funny animal comics during the mid-1940s. Featuring the antics of Mertie Mouse and his crew of animal antagonists, Toy Town presented book-length (52-page) features broken up into 8-page chapters, rather than the typical short-story or single-page gag strip format. Toy Town also benefited from artwork by L. B. Cole, a genius in the use of color and design, whose lively layouts and intensely vivid covers made Toy Town a treat for the eyes. Issue #1 features an amusing parody of Batman, along with a generally skewed version of the Disney universe.
