Jennifer Daydreamer: Oliver

The back cover quote uses the word “ethereal” to describe this. That’s it exactly. Oliver comprises three ethereal, dreamlike tales that are not quite surreal but are, perhaps, only a step away.

Dreams, out-of-body-experiences, and out-and-out madness share common terrain in Daydreamer’s world. (Given her subject matter, the reader must consider the possibility that that may be a pseudonym.) These comics are so much a glimpse into the mind that they probably have therapeutic value for Daydreamer as their creator. The reader, however, may occasionally be left with a sense of disorientation or bewilderment. But, hey, dreams don’t always make sense. (And madness probably never does!)

Oliver is artsy. There is a consensus that one is “supposed” to like art. But opera usually doesn’t draw as many viewers as “reality TV.” This is no doubt good stuff, profound and moody, but it’s also going to be an acquired taste. If after reading it, you scratch your head, read it a second time. You’ll see things you originally missed.
