Devlin Demon: Not for Normal Children
(Dublin, 1993)
™ and ©1993 Paul Salscheider
Devlin Demon is a little boy who doesn’t exactly fit in with the rest of the kids. He’s the sort of kid who envisions horrible monsters attaching themselves to the bus he’s riding, or spiders laying eggs inside the brain of the class bully. In short, he’s got a bit of a dark side. And whether the creepy world he lives in is real, or just a part of his morbid imagination, is a question left to the reader.
Devlin’s creator, Novato, California-based Paul Salscheider, is a longtime fan of such delightfully ghoulish comics as The Addams Family. Primarily a painter, he began work on this black-and-white one-shot in 1992 as a way of building the sort of comic he wished he could himself find in stores. The result is like Calvin & Hobbes set in a graveyard, and a sure fire favorite for the Timothy Burton/Vincent Price crowd.
