Continued from Cyblade/Shi: The Battle for Independents

Billy Tucci’s Shi and Marc Silvestri’s Cyblade, team up in this second part of a cross-company story. The story is a special one, as it has a deeper meaning than what is shown on the paper.

Tucci used this crossover as a metaphor for the independent comics’ struggle against big companies such as Marvel and DC, which they see as strangling the life out of original comic creations. In this story, Shi and Cyblade find themselves transported to just outside a strange land that is protected by a seemingly impenetrable wall. Dave Sim’s Cerebus suddenly appears and helps them over. He warns them of the heroes who have come before them and failed. The two femme fatales are charged with the destruction of a huge machine that keeps killing heroes by nothing more than its sheer size. Along the way, they meet Jeff Smith’s Bone, Quesada and Palmiotti’s Ash, and other independent comic heroes.
