Midnight City has survived the threat of destruction by the insane villain Clockwork, but the scars of his assault remain. Those scars also mar the Nevermen, the mysterious, trenchcoated protectors of the city, as their number has been tragically reduced from five to three. But although everyone would like to just move on, a new and even crueller menace – Winterbone, created by the same professor who created the Nevermen – plans to remind them all just how vulnerable Midnight City really is.
