My Greatest Adventure

My Greatest Adventure began its life as an adventure series, quickly switching to a science/fantasy-inspired format. For the first eighty issues of its run it turned in a respectable collection of stories, including several issues featuring the art of Jack Kirby and Alex Toth.

Then, issue #80 introduced the world to the strange crew of characters known as the Doom Patrol. This weird team consisted of ex-racer Cliff Steele, now clad in the metal body of Robotman; the stretchable Elasti-Girl; and the mysterious Negative Man. Like Marvel’s X-Men, these oddball heroes were led by a wheelchair-bound scientist (“the Chief”). An offbeat and popular team, the Doom Patrol soon “took over” the series and My Greatest Adventure switched names to The Doom Patrol (1st Series) following issue #85.
