Mighty Cartoon Heroes

The daft anthropomorphic antics of 1970s Hanna-Barbera cartoons are a major influence on Chameleon Kat and the Space Bananas, although labeling them “Cartoon Heroes” when they’ve not been animated is rather deceitful. There was no expense spared on this zero issue from having Jack Davis and Al Jaffee provide cover illustrations, to the lush production and paper stock. Unfortunately, it was all wasted on comics squarely aimed at the junior end of the market, and therefore better priced at below a dollar than $2.95. The content is also odd, with a long prequel to the Space Bananas appearance squeezing Chameleon Kat into a few pages and restricting the cover featured Aquahounds to a page of sketches. An interesting failure.
