Wyatt Earp
(Marvel, 1955-1960, 1972-1973)
™ and ©1972 Magazine Management Co., Inc.
Marvel played a bit fast-and-loose with the facts of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp’s life in making this series. The real-life version was considerably rougher and shadier than this clean-cut comic hero. Still, what the series may have lacked in historical accuracy it made up for in entertainment. The stories here told of how Marshal Wyatt Earp maintained the peace in Dodge City against all manner of ruffians, gunslingers, and murderers. Naturally, this meant using his blazing Colt 45s with great regularity, but Earp’s real weapons were his cleverness, and his courage to stand up to any threat.
Stan Lee wrote most of the stories, with art by Dick Ayers, Bill Everett, Jack Kirby, and others. The series ran from 1955 until 1960, and enjoyed a brief revival in 1972, alongside numerous other early Marvel Westerns, reprinting issues from the original run.
