A Boy and His ’Bot
(Now, 1987)
™ and ©1986 Gary Thomas Washington
A Boy and His ’Bot is a delightful one-shot by Gary Thomas Washington. The story begins when a giant robot crash lands into Earth. He is discovered by a small boy named Rick, whom the robot asks to become his pilot. Rick has always dreamed of traveling through space and this is his chance. He agrees—at least until dinnertime.
Rick is introduced to Smiley, a little round computer who keeps his eye out for Rick. Along the way, Smiley and Rick agree to let a sprite named Bea join them. The three travel in the benevolent robot for a few hours until Rick has to get home.
Upon their arrival at Rick’s house, the travelers learn that they have been watched by the Cyberbot force. Rick is asked to join the force and agrees—but only after receiving permission from his parents.
