The Long, Hot Summer

It’s the not-too-distant future, and the setting is an economically depressed society in which overt police response to a gang fight inadvertently creates freaks with superhuman ability, who walk among normal citizens causing a general state of uneasy tension. Now there’s a plan to pull the populace out of its depression: Utopia Park, an amusement park constructed in the city’s poorest section, Paris Island. There are mixed feelings about this effort, from both the unhappily evicted locals and also the super-powered Blood Syndicate, too mighty to be evicted and sympathetic to local concerns. There are also other interests at play, including those of Lucky Cola, a corporate success story determined to cash in on Utopia Park. Can they survive an alliance? Any business venture on Paris Island might be doomed to failure.
