Batman: Tenses
(DC, 2003)
™ and © DC Comics, Inc.
This two-part Prestige Format limited series is set during the Batman: Year One era, when the Dark Knight first began his crusade to protect the citizens of Gotham City.
A young Bruce Wayne has just assumed his role as CEO of Wayne Enterprises, his family’s legacy. Wayne’s first course of action is to “trim the fat” from his various companies, which means that mousey Ted has just been downsized right out of his job. But that’s the least of the problems. You see, Ted’s having horrible visions of the future that come true, and when a low-level crook learns of this, he decides to use Ted’s “gift” to fill his own coffers.
Writer Joe Casey’s story is gripping and intriguing, and artist Cully Hamner’s pictures range from the cartoonish to the downright creepy—especially as Ted edges closer toward insanity. Will the newly established Batman avert a seemingly certain apocalypse? Can the intensely aloof Bruce Wayne learn that real people actually work for his companies? Find out in this excellent two-parter.
