This series more resembled that of a magazine than a comic book. Debuting in 1995, this black-and-white series staked its claim as North America’s only manga monthly. Along with thoroughly entertaining existing fans, the series was dedicated to coax new readers into the world of Japanese comics. Although it was relatively expensive at cover price of $4.95, each issue had almost one hundred pages.
Most manga in Japan is published in large anthologies. Viz Communications, Manga Vizion’s publisher, saw to it that this tradition would be carried on in the United States. Manga Vizion would print one-shot stories alongside serial manga. Among the artists that were featured in Manga Vizion were Rumiko Takahashi (Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, and the Mermaid Saga) Ryoichi Ikegami (Mai, The Psychic Girl) and Kei Kusunoki. (Shonen)
