Carnal Comics: Hyapatia Lee

This title is another in Carnal Comics series of adult-film star profiles. These autobiographies are generally sanitized versions of the star’s life, glossing over issues like drug abuse and self-respect.

Hyapatia Lee grew up in the Midwest and as a young girl dreamed of becoming a ballerina. In her adolescence her ambition changed to starring on the stage as a leading lady or dancer, but then that goal was also scaled back and Lee eventually became a porn star. In this first-person account (written with the aid of Jay Allen Sanford) Lee rationalizes the twists and turns her life has taken, if not with pride, then with a hint of satisfaction and assurance that her choices were perfectly appropriate.

The fantasy back-up story that is a standard feature in these series portrays Hyapatia in a dream state having an encounter with Bono of U2, though the name isn’t mentioned.
