Spawn the Undead

The industry was reinvigorated with the promise of a new mythos when Todd McFarlane and associates left Marvel and formed Image Comics. When the dust settled and the speculators were nowhere to be found, readers saw that the emperor had no clothes. In fact, Image Comics was worse than the old guard with missed deadlines, recycled old ideas regurgitated into fancy covers and the greatest sin of all: lousy storytelling. In the main title, Spawn has not shown any tangible character growth and the promised war between Heaven and Hell has not occurred. This title concentrates on the urban setting that Spawn inhabits, and examines the human condition without losing some of the nuances of Spawn. It’s serious subject matter when compared to the style-over-substance theme emphasized in the main title. Perhaps Spawn is back on the right track.
