Calculated Risk
(Genesis, 1990)
™ and ©1990 Edward A. DeVora
Calculated Risk was a black and white anthology published in 1990 comprised of short stories ranging from the humorous to the bizarre. Similar in format to such classics as Tales From the Crypt, the book is hosted by a twisted narrator named The Nut who spends his time as a straight jacket wearing asylum inmate. The first and only issue of the series features The Nut’s origin as well as nine other stories. Highlights include “Critical Mess” in which the surprise at the bottom of a cereal box is the catalyst for global nuclear war and “Harry Harry Quite Contrary” which follows the life of an obsessed gardener and his annoying wife who unwillingly becomes fertilizer.
