Double Edge: Alpha
(Marvel, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Marvel Entertainment Group
Double Edge: Alpha picks up where the various Punisher titles left off at the end of the Countdown storyline. The Punisher was in chains, captured by Nick Fury and his SHIELD agents. Still, SHIELD was not the only one who had been out to get him. Rosalie Carbone wanted him dead so badly that she arranged for an ambush on the SHIELD agents—only to find that he had already been spirited away to another safehouse.
There, psychologist/super-hero Doc Samson began a radical therapy that used experimental drugs and hypnosis to regress Frank Castle back to the point where he first became the Punisher. Doc Samson sought to break through Castle’s obsession, but a turncoat SHIELD agent altered the therapy to make it appear that Nick Fury was behind the hit that killed Castle’s family. Then Carbone’s thugs bombed the safehouse, inadvertently freeing a Punisher who was now dangerously over the edge.
