The Death of Antisocialman
(Not Available, 1995)
©1995 Walt Lockley and Matt Feazell
Matt Feazell is perhaps the best known of the mini-comics publishers. Mini-comics are typically produced by photocopying the pages on standard 8.5” by 11” paper, then folding or cutting them into 1/4-sized pamphlets. Usually mini-comics are something of a “last resort,” used as a means for individual artists to publish their work without having any sort of budget. Feazell, on the other hand, has found them an ideal format for his work, which is marked by wacky humor and a minimalist, stick-figure art style. As such, he has made an ongoing practice of putting out mini-comics despite the success of his more conventionally published comics The Amazing Cynicalman and Ert!
In The Death of Antisocialman, Feazell gives readers an apparent oxymoron: the minicomic epic. Spoofing the drawn-out “death” of Superman, Feazell and writer Walt Lockley take a dozen or so issues to kill off Cynicalman’s nemesis, the dreaded Antisocialman.
