For centuries the secret order of St. Dumas has chosen one of its members to become Azrael, the angel of death. Azrael’s purpose: to exact deadly vengeance on those who spread the evils of crime and corruption. When the current Azrael encountered arms merchant Carlton LeHah, however, he found that his armor was no match for the arms dealer’s Teflon bullets. Azrael fell, mortally wounded into the midst of a parade in Gotham City, escaping only to die at the house of his young son.
The son, discovering that he was heir to a terrible legacy, traveled to Switzerland to assume the role of the new Azrael. Meanwhile, Batman’s investigation of the strange disturbance at the parade lead him to uncover Azrael’s secret. He follows the boy to Switzerland, only to find himself in the midst of a war of vengeance.
