Rock star Glen Danzig’s Verotik Press released Devilman in 1995. The series’ title character is a demon hunter who is also known as Ryo. Ryo travels across dimensions with his friend, Akiro, in an effort to find and kill demons. In a sort of Quantum Leap, the two find themselves wherever demons attack and hurt innocents.

For instance, in issue two, Devilman is sent to protect Joan of Arc from demons who are trying to kill her in order to prolong the war she is fighting. They falsely accuse her of being a witch and are about to kill her when Ryo arrives on the scene. He proceeds to annihilate the demons and reunites Joan with her home.

Devilman was written and illustrated by its creator, Go Nagai.
