It’s certainly ambitious. Writer John McLean-Foreman presents a story of an apocalyptic not-too-distant future, when machines have taken over and it’s up to a few intrepid individuals to change human genetics to keep up with computer evolution.

All this plot comes from the text piece at the back. The actual story comprises meaningless dialogue, gunfighting, cursing, and numerous obscure references to “The Project.” Why this neat premise couldn’t have been integrated into the story is anyone’s guess.

Brent White’s art is serviceable. He’s got a handle on anatomy, and the art’s got a lot of neat Photoshop special effects, including light sourcing, blur, and transparencies, but such effects are overdone in spots, often obscuring good art into mush.

It remains to be seen whether future issues will explain what’s going on or whether readers will have to rely on background info in the back of the issue to figure it all out.
