Vin Sullivan would be proud. Fifty–eight years after his first published comic book work, Dick Ayers is back with a new series, and fans of Ayers’ work will be thrilled! Chips Wilde is a different sort of hero. It is 1921, and Chips doesn’t ride a horse, but drives one of the first cars to be seen in the Western towns. He has a dog, Noah, for whom he would kill, and with him always is his quest for the man in a picture.

Chips Wilde #1 has three stories, “A Stranger in Town,” two un–named tales, and a preview of Dick Ayers #2, a comics autobiography. Straight out of the past comes Chips Wilde in this unabashed Silver Age–style comic book. The “clean” story (Chips drinks milk; his dog drinks beer) and the one storyline (in eight–page bites) was appealing 40 years ago—and still is today. The art is all Dick Ayers. At 80 years old, his abilities have not lessened, but economy and style make this a comic book celebration. Join in, folks, the fun is just beginning!
