Twilight X: Storm
(Antarctic, 2003–2004)
™ and © 2004 Joseph Wight
B&W
A decade after a nuclear fallout, Earth is still embroiled in international chaos. The last battleground is now the Caribbean, where the “old” American Navy is ready to clash with the forces of neo-Nazis. As a storm approaches, four enemy fighter jets launch a surprise attack on an American frigate. War planes from the U.S. fleet scramble to intercept the Nationalist bogeys, but is this the beginning of the end of World War III?
A trio—U.S. soldier Jed Saxon, his lover Toots, and Israeli soldier Richard Goldman—take this opportunity to say farewell to their American hosts and embark on their final mission to find their friends in the midst of this conflict. Piloting the mini-submarine Sappho 3, they are uncertain what fate has in store.
Creator Wight bends over backward to depict military craft, weapons, and lingo in action as realistically as possible. This is in sharp contrast to the sparseness of his narration and simplified countenances of his human characters. Given the lack of plot cues, falling into this drop zone is no picnic for newcomers. But devotees of guns and gunwales will find this impending storm see-worthy.
