Green Lantern Secret Files

™ and © 1999 DC Comics

In the latter half of the 1990s, DC began publishing special issues highlighting characters whose long careers had become convoluted and contradictory. Called Secret Files and Origins, these books served to delineate what parts of a hero’s history were canonical. Superman and Batman were among the first to be redefined.

Unlike Superman and Batman who have always been Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne respectively, Green Lantern, (and similarly the Flash), have been portrayed by different individuals in each of comic’s self-described ages, and so are a prime candidate for a Secret Files issue.

As in the other Secret Files books, concise, capsule descriptions of the main and supporting characters are the core of this title. Also included is a somewhat biased version of the Green Lantern mythos related by Guy Gardner to a casual patron of his bar, who is of course the reader.
