Cheese Weasel: Innocent Until Proven Guilty
(Side Show, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Jim Ridings
Innocent Until Proven Guilty is a staple-bound compilation of Jim Ridings’ Cheese Weasel strips from 1994 and 1995. The lead character has always been a sleazy lawyer with absolutely no conscience, one who would do anything for money. In this collection, however, he becomes a member of the “ACLUnatics” (a slam at the American Civil Liberties Union), an organization which has taken heat for its firm “no public religion” stance, and for aggressively defending the free speech rights of even such unsavory groups as the KKK.
Ridings uses his strips to poke fun at the entire liberal agenda, from abortion rights to environmental protection. Sometimes the jokes come off with a well-deserved zing; mostly, however, they concentrate on political satire, expressing Ridings’ staunchly conservative viewpoint.
