Mr. T
(AP, 2005)
™ and © AP
Mr. T of A-Team and Rocky III fame wore “bling bling” before there was such a name for it. He still sports a Mohawk haircut, even though Mohawks make mullets look cutting-edge. And, thankfully, he still uses his muscle-bound physique and in-your-face personality to promote an anti-drug message, which is essentially the gist of this first issue of his new comic-book series. (Mr. T himself is credited as “creative supervisor.”)
A new steroid derivative with terrible side effects is ravaging an already bad neighborhood, spurring a concerned doctor to try to convince Mr. T to come out of seclusion and resume his crime-fighting career. Kudos should go to Mr. T for the sincerity of this project (and for his sincerity in general), but there’s no real suspense here, since everyone knows all along that Mr. T will, indeed, return to kick some booty.
The art is realistic enough, but the plot is overly basic, even for an all-ages title. At least, it’s far superior to 1993’s Mr. T and the T-Force.
