The Crow: Wild Justice

    (Kitchen Sink, 1996)
™ and ©1996 James O’Barr

Continuing the harrowing tales of retribution by creator J. O’Barr, this three-issue, black-and-white mini-series written by Jerry Prosser with art by Charlie Adlard explores justice and revenge through the eyes of Detective Frank Jacobs, a cop who has stumbled into to the world of The Crow.

When Michael Korby and his wife are murdered, the crows return him from the dead to mete out justice, and won’t let his spirit rest till vengeance has been wrought. Prosser uses both Detective Jacobs and Korby, a former philosophy professor, to examine the cyclical nature of violence and justice, and to approach society’s views on revenge from a philosophical angle.

Is there a difference between justice and revenge? Should someone be allowed revenge for suffering, and if so, is avenging that wrong any different than the person who committed it in the first place? And is police violence justified because society allows it?
