Written by modern master Alan Moore, the story brought credibility and poignancy to some of the absurd situations and outrageous characters of the Silver Age with the introduction, “This is an imaginary story…aren’t they all?”

In 1986 DC Comics rebooted an icon of American pop culture. After almost fifty years of publishing Superman, the time had come to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. Writer-artist John Byrne was bestowed the honor restarting Superman’s story in a six-issue mini-series called The Man of Steel. But prior to that series, a grand finale was needed to bring the previous continuity to satisfying and memorable denouement. That story began in Superman #423 and concluded in Action Comics #583. Ten years later DC reprinted those two issues in this prestige format book.
