Forbidden Worlds

ACG’s Forbidden Worlds was another of the original science-fiction/horror titles of the early 1950s. The first several years of Forbidden Worlds featured stories with a horror theme. Toward the middle of the run, around the advent of the Comics Code, the focus shifted toward straight science fiction, with the usual space wars, giant robots, and dinosaur planets common to the stories of that time. In later issues, around the dawning of the Silver Age, Forbidden Worlds featured a science-fiction super-hero called Magicman. But the real hit was Ogden Whitney’s kid-humor/super-hero spoof series, Herbie, the Fat Fury, which appeared several times in the unlikely pages of Forbidden Worlds before graduating to his own series.

ACG drew on some of the better comic talent of the day, with early issues featuring art by Al Williamson, Frank Frazetta, and Joe Orlando.
