Sidekicks

    (Fanboy, 2000)
™ and ©2000 J. Torres and Takeshi Miyazawa

Shuster Academy trains super-powered teens to be super-heroes—well, sidekicks first, as a teenager must complete a co-op program under the guidance of an adult super-hero before beginning their own crimefighting career—and it’s Terry Highland’s first day. She’s making friends, meeting teachers, joining clubs and organizations, and getting beaten up by out-of-control training robots. Welcome to high school, eh?

This intriguing look at super-teens comes from writer J. Torres and artist Takeshi Miyazawa, and it brings a certain amount of realism to the concept of the young super-hero. How would the government really feel about teenagers endangering themselves and others by taking to the streets—and the skies—to fight crime? How would their parents feel? How would they learn to master their powers and abilities? Check this series out for an interesting take on great power and great responsibility.
