A reader could almost think the author took a clue from classic comic books that ran and developed an entire story in one issue. He didn’t, but he came close to hitting that mark.
The Hire is based on a series of commercial mini–movies about a man driving a BMW, a guy who will get anything and anybody anywhere—for the right amount of money. Of course, when dealing with the kinds of situations in which that career puts you, things may not always be what they seem, as The Hire finds out in the premiere issue. All he has to do this time is get a spoiled heiress from a paparazzi–besieged hotel to someplace quiet and hidden. Not as easy as it seems…
The Hire has been successfully ported to the comic–book format. The art is flashy (though it ranges from fuzzy to crisp), and the action is engaging. This should appeal to the original audience as well as to comic-book readers, since the story is taut, interesting, and fun.
