Coven of Angels is not a comic book in the traditional sense, but rather a collection of underground fiction that includes several graphic stories. Coven of Angels focuses primarily on dark and extreme visions, with illustrated “comic-style” stories of child-killing clowns, burn victims, venal and corrupt police, and other similar subjects with an undercurrent of wicked humor and penetrating intelligence. The rest of each issue is rounded out by prose stories and stand-alone illustrations.

Coven of Angels takes an ironic stance on everything, including itself, and self-consciously occupies some prime real-estate on the cutting edge of 1990s cultural sensibilities. Clearly Coven of Angels in not for everyone, but the people in its intended audience absolutely love it.
