Zecharia Leight was an archaeologist who had just made the find of a lifetime. While digging in some ancient Sumerian ruins, he discovered an OOPA—an “Out Of Place Artifact.” In ruins that dated back some 6,000 years, he had found a machine-tooled cylinder of purest chromium.

No sooner had his discovery been made public than Leight found his life endangered. Hooded Ninja attacked him, but a strange light emanating from the cylinder reduced them to ashes. Later, after much probing, he succeeded in opening the cylinder to reveal four crystals inside. When these were immersed in seawater they grew to form super-dense bodies…bodies that eventually became the Xenobrood. These super-powered humanoids were a last parting gift from ancient astronauts. Unleashed in today’s world they are virtual blank slates: possessing incredible abilities, but also a striking innocence.
