According to an old Lakota Sioux legend, a young spirit woman delivered a holy pipe to the people with instructions on using for prayer. As she walked away from the village, she turned into a white buffalo (bison) calf. This legend and its variants were interwoven into the fabric of the Native American tribes that occupied the Great Plains before the westward expansion of the white man. To the Native Americans, the buffalo is a symbol of strength and unity as well as the most sacred of animals.

Warned by tribal leaders, Turok has agreed to guide a self-centered hunter to the ultimate trophy—a white buffalo. The unsuspecting hunter is tethered to a world comprised of cold paper, empty words and futile duties. He’s blinded to the intricate relationships created by the Great Spirit between the people, the land and elements. Nonetheless his very survival will depend upon recognizing those relationships.
